Irish Memories... Vintage Post Cards

It seems to me that alot of folks
go from Valentine's Day right into Easter...
Skipping right on by St. Patrick's Day.

I'm guilty of such skipping...
Easter is such a beautiful Holiday...
Who wouldn't be in a rush to get to it?!

In an attempt to be fair...
Here are a few Irish Memory
Vintage Post Cards...

Hmmm...
What's your skipping style?

God bless...

Vintage, 1939, Easter Egg Ideas

Here's a page from a 1939 Issue of Popular Science magazine. I was fascinated with their creative ideas for Easter Egg decorating. And equally fascinated with their illustrated instructions. Perhaps you'll find a "Strictly Fresh Idea" to add to your To-Do Craft List!

Wouldn't this Rooster look terrific in an Easter Basket?

Add some flowers to her hat, and a whisper of blush on her cheeks and she'd be ready for any Easter Parade!
Did Native American Indian Chiefs wear earrings? At anyrate, some stunning war paint would complete his look!

I just love this "Stratosphere Balloon"... imagine a fuzzy yellow chick taking a ride... of course, you'd most likely want to add flowers, ribbon and glitter to make this even more enchanting!
Hmmm... I'm thinking that this tropical fish is mad about something... perhaps he's not pleased with the suggestion of using "gaudy colors" on him!

Ahhh... my most favorite of the designs... an Egg Trailer! How fun would it be do create one of these?! I'd have to have flowers, bling and glitter!

I'd like to know which is your favorite, and do you think you'll create a "Strictly Fresh Idea" egg for your Easter collection?!

God bless...

A Child, Duck, and Bottle of Seltzer equals Strange Medicine

Who would've known that "timely and judicious" use of this product would "cure", "regulate", and "enable" someone to the brink of good health?! Not only that, it's "elegant" too!

I've long had a passion for Vintage Advertising and Art... it simply fascinates me... I love how folks "talked" back then... they were true Wordsmiths! Enlarge the images to read the interesting and entertaining text in these old ads.

Look at the fine detail the artists used in their illustrations... I find them to be oddly creative and whimsical... What kind of mind dreams up a child riding and medicating a duck while a fish swims below with a bottle sucked to its mouth?! I suppose it's no more odd than much of what is seen in modern advertising.

A simple ad... too bad it doesn't tell us what this amazing crushable pill is for...

Perhaps it was so popular in its time that there was no need to explain what it was used for... but obviously felt a need to inform folks that it could be crushed under their thumbs... no other way mind you, thumbs only!!

This must have been a very popular brand of Seltzer... I'm amused by how they describe, in detail, their packaging... color advertising wasn't an option so they spelled it out for their consumers... how thoughtful.

I like their claim to "not fail to effectively cure" ailments!

And... who knew that...

Just imagine... for only 35 cents and a few sprinkles a day, folks could firmly and comfortably wear their false teeth!

This illustration isn't quite as imaginative as others...

Another Tarrant's Seltzer ad, promoting the "celebrated seltzer spring of Germany" ... They say it's "pleasant to the taste, gentle in its action", and "invaluable for both sexes and all ages" ...

This illustration speaks more directly to the consumer with its "real life" depiction of folks gathering around to purchase the seltzer.

The last Vintage Advertising piece I'm sharing is one of the more strange ones, word-wise, in my opinion... perhaps in its time, though, it wasn't viewed as such...

What is with that?! ... Fleshy People ... Ohhhh my! This ad was supposedly written by a "regular practicing physician", however, nowhere in the ad is this Dr.'s name mentioned... there are plenty of claims made, though... no "bandages or tight lacing" are needed in order to "reduce your flesh"...

whewwww, that's good to know!

I wonder how many people ended up sending off for this amazing treatment?! The weight-loss business has existed longer than I'd imagined... and most likely will exist for some time to come.

I hope that you enjoyed taking a walk back in time to see how things were in the medical world of our ancestors... Let me know if you come across a child riding a duck while pouring magical seltzer in its mouth...

God bless...

Kitchen Time with my Sweetheart

I wonder how many packages of these Oodles-of-Noodles we've purchased during our marriage?! More than I'd care to think of, I'm sure. We're still stocking our pantry with them... Beef and Chicken seem to be the most requested flavor when the grocery list is being made. The boys love them!

Sunday evenings my Husband usually works, but this Sunday work was slow and he was given the night off. He wanted soup for supper. We decided to make a big pot of veggie soup together. One thing that we've done for a long time is to save any left-over veggies from our meals... we usually put them in a recycled plastic ice cream tub and then freeze it... adding to it as the left-overs appear. We are big veggie lovers in this house, so it's often quite a wild mix in our left-over container!

My Husband put our gigantic stainless soup pot on the stove and opened a big can of tomato juice and a big container of chicken broth... in they went, followed by water and spices. Next came the veggies... lima beans, corn, peas, string beans, field peas, and cabbage... We tasted the broth and felt it needed "something" else... Hmmmm, what to do?

Ahhhh... reach for the good old standbye, Ramen Chicken Noodles! I opened 8 packages and then emptied the flavor pouches into the soup pot... more stirring and tasting... Ohhh yeah! Just right! While the soup was coming to a boil, I sat and visited with my Husband while he did some cleaning... Soon it was time to add the noodles and then enjoy our supper...

Another thing we've collected over the years of our marriage, besides Ramen Noodles, have been Campbell Soup mugs... We love the sweet faces of the kids featured on them... We served our soup in the big mugs and agreed that things just taste "better" from them!

I'm so blessed to have a Husband that enjoys cooking... my health no longer allows me to do most of the things a housewife would tend to for her family... it makes me very sad... But my Sweetheart never complains, and I treasure the times that I'm well enough to get into the kitchen with him and help some... my health no longer allows me to eat anything with Gluten in it, either... that comes from Celiac Disease... there are times, though, when I "cheat" just a little bit... our soup was one of my "cheating" moments...
After supper, I had my coffee in my Vintage soup mug... it was a gift from my Mother-in-Law a long time ago... I wish we had a set of them, but we only have one... I'm so thankful to God for providing for us, and extremely thankful for being married to my best friend... His loving heart and kind soul help me get through each day... I cannot imagine my life without him in it...

So, in addition to "collecting" packages of Oodles-of-Noodles, and Campbell Soup mugs... I've also been collecting sweet memories of time spent in the kitchen with the Love of my life...

All I can say about that is, Mmmm-Mmmmmmm-Good!

God bless...

Until another time... Pearl
