Dr. Seuss Celebration!

I have no idea who Samantha is...
but I bet she'd not mind sharing her cake...
So, grab a slice and
get some cookies...
It's time to celebrate...

Today would have been the
beloved Dr. Seuss' 105th Birthday!

Born March 2, 1904,
the American writer and cartoonist
was named Theodor Seuss Geisel.
His first book...
And to Think That I Saw
It on Mulberry Street
was written in 1937.

The 500 Hats of
Bartholomew Cubbins
was written in 1938.

The very popular
Horton Hears a Who
came along in 1954.

Here's an ad from 1970...
Eat Cookies and get a
"Free" Book.

The "Dr." in his pen name is an
acknowledgment of his father's
unfulfilled hopes that Geisel
would earn a doctorate at Oxford.

The Grinch entered
our lives in 1957.

In 1966, How The Grinch Stole Christmas
was adapted into TV Cartoon format and
is often broadcast as an annual
Christmas television special.

Considered to be one of
his most popular books,
The Cat In The Hat
was written in 1957.

Geisel also used the pen name
"Theo. LeSieg"
(Geisel spelled backwards)
for books he wrote but others illustrated.

His whimsical art was featured
on several USA Postage Stamps.

Over the course of his long career,
Geisel wrote over 60 books.

The extremely popular
Green Eggs and Ham
was written in 1960.

His books have sold over
222 Million copies!

They have been translated
into more than 15 languages.

People even find inspiration
for cakes from his books.

One of my all-time favorites
One Fish Two Fish
Red Fish Blue Fish
was written in 1960.

Fox in Socks
followed in 1965.

Although he received numerous
awards throughout his career,
Geisel won neither the
Caldecott Medal nor the Newbery Medal.

I find it amazing to think of how many lives
Dr. Seuss has touched, and of how many people
have learned to read due to his
creative and entertaining way of writing.

Thank you, Dr. Seuss...
and
Happy Birthday!

God bless...

Until another time... Pearl

I remember when Dr. Seuss went to speak to us back in elementary school! I was in 2nd grade and was quite disappointed he did not look as I imagined he should, which in my imagination probably included a red and white hat and some mismatched oversized socks. Aww, the memories!
